Years ago I met a lady who thought that evangelism was not something that she was required to be about as a Christian. She said she had the wrong personality for evangelism and that not everyone was called to such a task. As you could imagine, I was just outraged in a Tina kind of a way and adamant that I could encourage her to change her position...and I did. Today she is reaching out to family members and work colleagues who do not know Christ. She just needed a bit of training so that she could win and not lose; be wise and not unwise!
2 Corinthians 5:17 -18 says that...those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun. All this newness of life is from God, who brought us back to himself through what Christ did. And God has given us the task of reconciling people to Him.
God has give US (you and me and the lady in the story above) the task, the job, the charge so to speak to reach out! Yes, we know that it is the Holy Spirit that draws people's hearts to Jesus but it is also the Holy Spirit who uses US in the process! We are all called to be a part of this task of reconciling people to God!
If God has given us this task then surely He feels that we can do it. Sometimes it's simply a matter of training and up-skilling in the area of evangelism to keep us on task! Two great resources to help you with your personal evangelism are:
